By early this evening, Julia's body, particularly her face and neck, was sufficiently crusty (which is a good thing for a pizza but an uncomfortable thing for a baby's skin) that we decided to give her a bath. To prevent electrocution and the destruction of $3.7 million worth of fancy equipment, that required that we remove all of the sensors, Spacely Sprockets, and Cogswell Cogs from her body. After the bath and a hearty meal for Julia, our nurse was gracious enough to allow us a few unencumbered hours with Julia before hooking her back up to the monitors. Those moments of joyful playing and heavenly napping with the unplugged version of Julia were priceless.

It's amazing how the simple privilege of holding my daughter became so much sweeter when I couldn't really do it for the past several days. She's hooked up and well-monitored again, which is a good thing in her current condition, but what a delightful evening we had together.
