So we just got back from a week of vacation with Chad's parents Dottie and Obie (or Mom and Dad, or Grandma and Pop, depending on who is talking!), Chad's sister Heidi and her husband Mike, and their two kids Lydia and Clara. We use a timeshare week each summer to head to someplace new...and with 3 kids in the mix now, we decided to find someplace where there was not much at all we wanted to do other than be together! The Poconos rose to the top of the list this year, and we spent a week at Shawnee Village.
We headed there with a VERY full car...
(Julia warily eying the piles surrounding her)We visited the nearby "Snake and Animal Farm"
(very much a mom & pop establishment!)...
(Julia wasn't too sure of the goats...and we weren't too sure how close we could safely hold her
before she would lose some fingers!)
(but she absolutely loved watching these fuzzy lemursjump wildly around the cage!)
And Julia had her first experience swimming...
Chad and his mom played a modified shuffleboard game one night
while we all were hanging out together outside... :)
And Julia learned to support our love of board games...
(although she struggled to let go and actually throw the dice,no matter how many times we shook her hands...
ah, well -- that will come...)
We had a sweet family time of an a capella hymn-sing...
And Heidi found a steal of a bargain with 50 cent koala-ears
for our niece Lydia...
Then there was the guys' baseball roadtrip to watch the Phillies play at Yankee Stadium...
And Chad and his dad playing a couple of rounds of golf together....
On the way home, we were able to stop at Camp Mosey Wood (or Moosey Woosey, according to Stephen Emick...), a Girl Scout camp that I attended for 9 years in the 80's and 90's. A gazillion memories flooded back as we walked along the lake (the very one that I plunged into through the ice on one winter camping trip...) and down the beautiful rhododendron trail!
It was a wonderfully relaxing week of lounging around, visiting with family, and watching a ton of the World Cup soccer matches. Three-year-old Lydia summed up our level of productivity one morning when we asked her what she wanted to do that day and she responded with: "Well, I think I want to play with my cards, go swimming, and then dance with ribbons..."
Julia did amazingly well on her first full-blown vacation, keeping to her regular schedule like a champ and handling the car trips like a pro...and is now ready for whatever the rest of the summer brings!
However, she must have been quite tuckered out with the excitement of the week, because we couldn't get her in bed fast enough tonight!
