Well, I'm over a week late in publishing this post, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks!
Two Sundays ago (10/26), we launched our Midtown Site at the State College High School South Auditorium. It was an amazing day! Several of us were running back and forth between the 1250 site (named for our address -- 1250 University Drive) and the high school. We had a lot of variables we weren't sure about, but we had an amazing team of volunteers and servant-leaders who stepped up to the challenge and pulled it off amazingly well!
As 11am approached, people started streaming in the doors... It wasn't long before the room looked full! However, by increasing our seating capacity in that service to around 650, we finally have a bit of room to grow again!
We started the service with a video that Dean, Brett and I created. It's having a little bit of fun with Stacy Sublett, Calvary's youth pastor who has taken on the additional role of the pastor of the Midtown site...
(we had Stacy enter right at the end of this video, running down the aisle. It was pretty cool, and elicited spontaneous applause as folks felt the excitement and fun of a new chapter in the life of Calvary!)
Chad spent pretty much the entirety of the morning trying to keep up with coffee demand. We still find it highly ironic that the guy who loathes coffee is the one responsible for it, under his leadership of the First Impressions ministry. :)
It was an amazing morning of folks connecting with God, connecting with each other, and waking up to the fact that they can now start inviting friends and neighbors to this larger site - something that has been hard to do for years now!
Dan had sent a note around a few days before the launch saying the following...
"Sometimes we don't hit the marks we set for ourselves. So we have to work through the frustration or disappointment or stress. BUT we all know that the key marker of "success" this weekend will simply be the answer to the question, "Is God in the House?" If everything gets in place except Him, no success. If nothing gets in place, except Him, all success."
It was a great perspective to keep in mind, and we definitely saw God's presence in amazing ways.
To God be the glory!!! And what an amazing privilege that He calls us as partners in helping to transform people's lives.
