Go West: The One with the Pillaging...

We checked out of what we hope and assume will be our last hotel stop on this trip, and Eliza was very proud to display all of the paraphernalia that she (with some help from Caleb) had pilfered at each stop along the way, what she loudly declared as her "pillages."  Without further ado, here are Eliza's pillages:

In the other direction, I had to admit a giant loss.  We packed from the outset a large bag of ranch dressing containers that I have been accumulating over the course of a year or two, never knowing when a portable shot of ranch would be necessary.  That grab bag of ranch glory has been transferred in and out of our cooler dozens of times, stored in motel fridges of varying cooling capacities, endured when all of the ice had melted and left it sitting in a swamp of luke-warm water at the bottom of the cooler.  After acknowledging that the ranch dressings were now showing a varied color palette of numerous shades of yellow, I had to make the call.  They had to go.  Ranch dressings, you served us well, but your time has passed.

After weeks of spectacular mountains and alpine lakes and cliffs and rock formations and loveliness of every kind, I can't pretend that Kansas landscapes interest me at all.  Kate still found the green earth and blue sky of Kansas beautiful.  To each their own.

That sign was the most interesting thing we saw in Kansas.

Mini Poppy was moving along quite well on our minivan ceiling trip diorama, as we approached our familial destination.

One of our final state signs and one of the more perilous, with a narrow shoulder along an interstate highway having just crossed the river.

After having driven 24 hours over the past three days, we were so delighted to have arrived with Kate's sister, Chris, and her family at their lovely home just outside Kansas City.  In fact, we were so delighted that we didn't take any pictures our first evening together, other than this beaut.  We all slept well...

...looking forward to a full day with family tomorrow.
