Snow fun is no fun (at first)...

Since we live in Centre County, Pennsylvania, there is nothing about turning the calendar to March that would indicate that winter is over. Indeed, we got hammered with our biggest snowstorm of the year this past week. And it was simply spectacular.

Having received a nice snowsuit for Julia from my sister, Heidi, we thought that we'd better put it to use, since Julia is certainly old enough to thoroughly enjoy exploring new things and our window of wintry weather will close sometime soon. So, we decided to let our little snow princess experience the joy of snow, which included what we like to call the "descent into crabbiness." She was still smiling after we put on the snowsuit.

But her demeanor then descended from a bit of concern as we also got bundled to a look of drunken misery to an outburst of all-out tears when she sat down in the snow.

So, it appears that my dream of being the father of a Winter Olympian may be shattered. I have such an affinity for mongrel skiing and snow hunting that I thought we could push her in that direction, but she was having none of it.

On a second attempt, we downgraded from the snowsuit to several warm layers and decided to put her to work. Though we'll probably have to invest in a more size-appropriate shovel for her, she seemed to take to the shoveling much better than playing in the snow.

I'm interested to see how she handles the lawn-mower this spring. Finally, like a true Oberholtzer, all is well when we end with eating. Even though snow doesn't taste as good as meat, she seemed to like the sensation.

And, Dad, you'll be pleased to know that we didn't feed her any of the yellow snow.
